I did some drawing over the holidays experimenting with media and ideas for content.
These are some drawings I did experimenting with ink and textured cut paper. I like the expression in the ink drawings but I feel it reflects the wrong tone of ravens being sinister and evil. I think the cut paper works better, but I need to work on these images, to seem less stiff and formulated.
Something I have been most interested within my research is ravens in Native American culture - e.g. the flap of a ravens wing creates wind, lightening and thunder. I like the idea of using pattern (alike to Eleni Kalorkoti's images) as a way of expressing this narrative.
After a talk with Matt I began to understand that the myths and legends about ravens, is probably what I am most interested in, so... I am going to scrap the 'Raven Lady' idea and focus solely on this. My intent, however, of avoiding the demonisation of Ravens and providing a new, lighter perspective - something the 'Raven Lady' aims to do in her own work - is going to remain the same.
This is the A3 poster we were set the task of doing in order to summarise the ideas we had for our picture book. Overall I now feel better about the content for my book and understand what I need to do to progress forward - experiment with media and continue to develop content with storyboarding.
