These are a couple of images from a series of illustrations Iro Tsavala did for Angela Carter's collection of short stories 'Bloody Chamber'. These caught my eye as I really enjoy the use of texture and shape in these images, created through a process of mono-printing and drawing. I think they contain a strong sense of atmosphere, and reflect a similar tone that would be appropriate for my own book. I think this tone is achieved through what seems like a really care-free and expressive application of media, as well as maintaining quite simple compositions and a naive aesthetic that reminds of the work of Ceri Amphlett in some ways. I think this use of shape and texture, as well as simple composition is definitely something to reflect on and consider in the crafting of my final images.
