My new plan

As I said before the group crit raised a number of concerns in my mind as to how my book would flow and work as a narrative. So I went away and did some more storyboarding.

I am now happy with this final idea.
  • I took inspiration from one of Eleni Kalorkoti's zines called 'Held' (which I actually own). This zine is landscape but bound at the top, and so I thought that this could be a potentially interesting layout for my book.
  • I have now included text which I think will make the 5 myths stand out more as individual narratives.
  • I took on what Aisla said about allowing the illustrations to breath and not condensing too much visual information into the book. So on each double page spread one will a pattern with text over the top, and the other a collage illustrating that particular story.
Today I also spoke to Matt and Jamie - they seemed positive about my new plan. They also made some helpful suggestions:
  • Start getting moving on the text - do not make it more than just a couple lines.
  • Are the double end pages a bit of a 'cop out' - need to think about what will go on these pages more and how they will contribute to the overall book.
  • Consider printing on another paper. (if I do this I will definitely use a mid-tone like grey or grey'ish blue)
  • Need to spend a day just experimenting and making textures.
  • Make sure that the patterns you create directly relate to the illustrations/stories on that double page spread.
