Monoprinting with feathers

A lot of my book has been about experimenting with texture and pattern to tell narrative. My subject being a raven, I thought that using feathers to create a pattern or texture would be an interesting way of making images for my book. So...I bought some feathers online and did some monoprints with them.

What do I think?
  • I am really happy with the final results. I think that mono-printing as a process has worked really well to capture the texture and beauty of the feathers.
  • Sticking to the monotone colour palette has worked well - especially as the feathers themselves picked up some ink, this created an interesting 3 tonal effect.
  • I think that delicacy of these images could work really well to contrast with the common perception of ravens being an evil and intimidating bird.

What could I do with these monoprints?
  • Use them as inside pages for the front and back of the book.
  • Jordan suggested that I used them to create the title - so that the text itself would contain a feathered texture (this could make for a really clean cut and beautiful cover but does it fit well with the atmosphere of the book?)
  • Use it as a front cover.
  • Work with the monoprints as another texture to create images - I am interesting in experimenting with this to create the image to do with murdered souls being present in ravens.
