Photoshop

In these photoshop workshops we learnt how to scan in images and then how to use a number of different treatments to refine them and add colour.

This is the original image that I used in these photoshop workshops to test and learn all these different treatments. We scanned this in and learnt about the different images sizes we would need to use, depending on the purpose of that image e.g.  for web it is 75dpi

For this image I had just played around with 'levels' in order to change the tone and quality of line in my drawing.

Here I had used selections tools such as the 'quick selection tool' or 'magic wand' in order to erase the background.

I created this image using 'hue and saturation' and 'colourize' in order to change the colour of the drawing and its background.

To create this I learnt how to create a new level and use the tool 'multiply' so that I may add colour without losing any of the original lines in the drawing.

Here I have used two similar tools to 'multiply' called 'overlay' and 'screen' in order to add colour to my drawing.

Here I have used masks in order to add texture to the pot and the soil of my plant. I then used a combination of 'overlay' and 'multiply' in order to add colour.

Making a Brush

We learnt how to create a brush on photoshop. I made one of my whole plant and then used this to create overlaid images.

In this final image I tried to use a combination of everything I had learnt. Using selection tools I choose to colour in certain areas of the image, as well as using tools such as 'multiply' so that none of the original image was lost. I also experimented with a lot of different brushes that can be used to emulate traditional media (as shown above in the screen shot).

Before this workshop I had a very limited understanding of how to use photoshop as a way of editing and adding to images. I am not happy with many of the images I created; however I feel like I learnt a lot and am much more confident with using this application. I am not a massive fan of digital media but I think I will definitely be experimenting more with using photoshop, as I think it is essential to have a good understanding of how to use it in order to be successful  in the professional world.
